Building a powerful tool like Tumblr Scanner requires finding a perfect balance between high-speed performance and strict adherence to Tumblr's API ecosystem. Today, we're sharing the technical limits we respect to keep your account safe and your scans running smoothly.

Current Development Status

Our core focus is shifting from infrastructure stability to User Experience (UX) and Transparency. We've recently implemented a modern Magic Link authentication system, allowing for secure, passwordless access to your dashboard.

Our Background Scanning Strategy

Unlike browser-based scripts that can trigger security flags, our tool processes scans using a throttled Background Worker system. This means:

  • No Local Stress: Your phone or laptop doesn't have to stay on for the scan to finish.
  • IP Protection: All requests originate from our secure servers, protecting your personal IP from being flagged for high-frequency activity.
  • Safety First: We use official OAuth protocols to ensure your data remains private and secure.

The Limits: Official vs. Fair Use

Tumblr provides generous but strict limits for API integrations. Exceeding these triggers HTTP 429 (Too Many Requests) errors and risks temporary blocks. Here is how we navigate them:

Global Platform Throttling

While Tumblr allows up to 300 requests/minute per IP, we voluntarily throttle our background workers to 15 requests per minute globally. This "ultra-safe" rhythm ensures we stay well below 1,000 requests/hour and never attract unwanted attention from security filters.

Daily User Action Limits

Tumblr permits 200 follows per day. To keep your account's reputation pristine, we enforce the following 24-hour unfollow quotas:

  • Standard Users: 50 blogs/day
  • VIP Members: 250 blogs/day (following professional engagement patterns)
Resource Type Tumblr Limit (Hard) Scanner Policy (Safe)
Requests / Hour 1,000 ~900
Requests / Day 5,000 Locked to consumer key
Pagination Depth 1,000 offset Automated cursor mgt

What's Next?

We are refining our "Active Blog Discovery" engine to improve the speed of initial scans while strictly respecting media limits (150 images/10 videos per day) and ensuring that you never hit the 429 threshold.

Thank you for helping us build the most reliable and transparent Tumblr management platform available! ✨
